After earning his medical degree from the University of Minnesota School of Medicine, Dr. Montague completed his residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at Penrose Hospital in Colorado Springs, where he studied under Dr. Cosimo Sciotto. Dr. Sciotto was the director of hematology, coagulation, immunology, flow cytometry, cytogenetics and molecular pathology and has been a driving force behind new technology development in pathology in Colorado.

Dr. Montague completed his fellowship in surgical pathology at Memorial Sloan- Kettering in New York where he trained under Dr. Peter Rosen and Dr. Juan Rosai. Dr. Rosen is the world’s foremost academic surgical pathologist working in the area of mammary cancer and author of the most comprehensive and authoritative text in the field (Rosen’s Breast Pathology, now in its third edition). Dr. Rosen and his colleagues pioneered the application of rigorous statistical methods to the analysis of women with breast carcinomas and introduced lengthy clinical follow-up and painstakingly annotated tumor morphology. Dr. Rosai is the principal author and editor of a major textbook in surgical pathology entitled Rosai and Ackerman’s Surgical Pathology and has characterized novel medical conditions such as Rosai-Dorfman disease and the desmoplastic small round cell tumor.

Dr. Montague’s teaching experience included the clinical associate training program and the medical technology school at Penrose Hospital, student peer teaching program at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine and as biology department academic assistant at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. When Dr. Montague is not working, he enjoys family, farming and music.
